| Barnabites and Books: a Style from the 19th-Century Barnabite Missions to New Forms of Evangelization, Birthrightness, and Intercultural Reading among Migrants |
| The Report is structured in two parts. A historical introduction illustrates the documentary and book heritage held at the Study Center and recounts the long tradition and style of the Barnabite missions, from the 19th-century missions to new forms of evangelization, bi-ritualism, and interculturalism. The Barnabite Fathers have always lived their mission through a profound commitment to interreligious and intercultural dialogue, rooted in a tradition of evangelization that unites culture and spirituality, with an approach to dialogue characterized by “serene coexistence” and respect for the specificities of other religious cultures, without renouncing their own principles but distinguishing the different visions without necessarily opposing them. The second part is specifically connected to the cultural activities of the Study Center, which is developing new languages to bring a diverse audience closer to the religious history preserved within its Institute, with an innovative use of the reception and transmission of memory, teaching, and community needs. In this context, a new intercultural and interreligious experiential workshop entitled “The Journey” has been developed, promoting reading, integrating bibliotherapy, and focusing on the theme of migration. Participants, from diverse backgrounds—migrants and host communities—were selected to improve their life skills, soft skills, and character skills. The theme: the journey within ourselves and toward “the other,” through the reading of silent books, illustrated books, and activities that stimulate the sharing of emotions, stories, and images. The journey will be documented with video footage that will allow participants to gather their memories, culminating in a final short or medium-length film and a collective book of materials. The goal is to give voice to the issues related to migration and the importance of interreligious and intercultural dialogue. |
